We’re Back from Our Honeymoon!

Our honeymoon was a road trip of polar opposites, taking us from the tranquility of Big Bear to the restless energy of Las Vegas.  What fun we had!

Big Bear welcomed us with open arms after the hustle and bustle of wedding planning. We stayed at a charming bed and breakfast within walking distance of downtown Big Bear Lake that offered easy access to hikes, shops, eateries and endless natural beauty.  After spending our first evening exploring the town and getting settled in, we hiked to the top of a nearby ridge and enjoyed the beautiful views of the lake and walked for a bit on the Pacific Crest Trail. Another highlight of this stop on our journey was discovering Murray’s Saloon, which was alive with activity in an otherwise sleepy town. The food was amazing and there was free use of a pool table (we won’t say who won), not to mention the inherent joy of people watching at a place seemingly frequented by locals.

After leaving the respite of the mountains we hit the road for Vegas. Beckoned by neon lights, we gussied up and headed out. Despite its less-than-virtuous reputation, there is something extremely fun about walking down the Las Vegas strip. By simply leaving your hotel room, there is lavish décor, creative architecture, great music and delicious food within walking distance. We also enjoyed two free shows on account of John’s military service. We were pleasantly surprised to find that a show we wanted to see anyway, Defending the Caveman, gives free tickets to military as did a nearby comedy magic show. Both provided many laughs and added to our growing collection of honeymoon memories.

Short but sweet, our honeymoon is over but we enjoyed every minute! We’re already looking forward to our next opportunity to visit Big Bear and Vegas, and revel in the wonderful memories of our first trip as man and wife.
