The Little Patient that Could

John (evidently a very unique type of overachiever) recently managed to get not one, but two hernias, which he fortunately had repaired last Wednesday. It all started back when we were moving into our house and relocating items that we didn't have an immediate use for into the attic. Next on the "to be moved" docket was a box of weights, which John wisely chose to move into a nearby closet rather than hoist them into the elevated storage space. Well, apparently even a considerable amount of caution is not enough for some situations and that's when it happened (or at least that's what triggered its discovery). Shortly thereafter the "weird feeling" in his side began, along with the doctor visits.

The procedure went very well and although still uncomfortable at times, he is healing up quite nicely. It really is amazing what medicine can do these days...he was walking on his own just one day after his surgery! Jennifer has been the on-duty "nurse" and has enjoyed taking care of John and having extra time with him at home while he recovers. Here is a "photojournalistic" overview of John's many talents as a wonderful patient :-).

He keeps a positive attitude, even immediately following surgery!

He sports his pink bucket like a champ! (Don't worry, the nausea has since subsided.)

He downs a Cinnabon on the day of his surgery (most kids ask for lollipops, but these are only available in Yokosuka near the hospital)!

He watches TV and makes his bathrobe (no waist elastic) a fashion statement!

He practices walking, but still needs help picking things up!

Jennifer was skeptical of the doctor's prediction that John would be "running in a week", however with a convalescent leave like this, maybe anything is possible!
