A Waterfall, A Bridge and Flower Fields

Shortly after the Navy Ball, we embarked on yet another fulfilling MWR tour, this time with a scenic twist. Our first destination was Fukuroda Waterfall, which is comprised of 4 tiers and spans 73 meters across and 121 meters from top to bottom. In fact, according to our guide, this waterfall was voted the third most beautiful in Japan. The surrounding leaves were not yet fully bursting with color, but the scenery was still breathtaking! Next we proceeded to the Ryujin Ohashi Bridge, the longest steel pedestrian bridge in our host country. Aside from the thrill of watching others bungee jump from its underbelly, the bridge also offered spectacular views of the gorge below. The final stop on our tour was Hitachi Seaside Park. Famous for its flower fields, this cheerful community gathering space did not disappoint. In addition to several gardens, walking paths and bike trails, the park also housed an amusement park, an outdoor amphitheater and expansive lawn space ideal for picnicking. Next time we'll be sure to pack a blanket and lunch :-)!
